Everything You Need To Know About GEICO’s Roadside Assistance
GEICO's Roadside Assistance offers services including towing, winching, fuel delivery, battery jump-start, and a locksmith. Although GEICO covers service up to $100, drivers must pay for items themselves, such as a new battery, gas, or tire. GEICO car insurance rates are some of the lowest around, and adding Roadside Assistance only costs about $1 a month. Drivers who have long commutes or an unreliable vehicle should consider adding Roadside Assistance from GEICO.

Drivers who spend any time on the road know that a breakdown is inevitable. Whether it’s a flat tire or a dead battery, you’re going to need help at some point.
Geico Roadside Assistance offers peace of mind and 24/7 service to get you back on the road again. Services include emergency towing, fuel delivery, lockout services, and flat tire changes.
However, unlike AAA, Geico Roadside Assistance is only available for vehicles listed on your auto insurance policy. So, if you borrow a friend’s car, you can’t use your Geico coverage.
Although Roadside Assistance from Geico has its limits, it only costs approximately $1 a month per vehicle. Geico already offers low auto insurance rates, and adding Roadside Assistance is also very inexpensive.

What is Geico’s Roadside Assistance?
Roadside assistance offers peace of mind that you aren’t on your own when you experience car trouble. Geico offers nationwide service 24/7. While Geico responds to service requests within two minutes, a technician may need up to an hour to meet you at your location.
While every company offers different roadside assistance services, Geico’s Roadside Assistance provides many standard services. For example, with Geico, flat tires won’t consume your entire day.
Geico Roadside Assistance includes:
- Towing. If your car is undrivable, Geico covers towing to the nearest repair facility.
- Battery jump-start. A service technician will jump-start your battery to get you back on the road.
- Fuel delivery. Enough gas to get to the next gas station can be delivered if you run out.
- Winching. A technician will winch your vehicle if it’s stuck next to a public road.
- Tire changes. Someone will come and put it on for you if you have a spare tire.
- Locksmith services. If you lock your keys in your car or lose them, Geico covers up to $100 for a locksmith to unlock your vehicle.
Roadside assistance is a good option for drivers with a long commute, for those who take road trips, or for motorists who have an unreliable vehicle. It’s also a good idea to add coverage if you often forget to check your gas gauge or lose your keys. (For more information, read our “Does GEICO auto insurance cover towing?”)

What isn’t covered by Roadside Assistance from Geico?
While Geico’s Roadside Assistance is an inexpensive way to deal with car troubles, there are some drawbacks.
First, coverage is only available for the vehicles on your auto insurance policy. So, if you often borrow a car, Geico Roadside Assistance won’t cover it. Some auto clubs, such as AAA, protect any vehicle you drive, but rates are typically higher.
Next, Geico Roadside Assistance doesn’t include every item. For example, you have to pay for goods even though Geico pays the service fees. Fuel, a new battery, new tires, or new keys aren’t included.
In addition, Geico only covers labor up to $100 or one hour. So, if the locksmith fees exceed that amount, you have to pay the difference.
Finally, while there isn’t a Geico Roadside Assistance towing limit, coverage states that you will be towed to the next closest repair shop. So if you want your car to go to a specific repair shop, you will probably have to pay the difference.
Other services, such as emergency electric vehicle charging, aren’t included at all.
How much is Geico’s Roadside Assistance?
Geico Roadside Assistance is only approximately $14 a year per vehicle. So, if you have three cars, your cost would be $42 a year.
However, you have to already have Geico auto insurance in order to add Roadside Assistance. While Geico offers some of the most affordable car insurance in the industry, rates vary by driver.
Many different factors are used to calculate car insurance rates, such as your age, driving record, and ZIP code. Another important variable that determines rates is how much coverage you select.
Although most states only require a small amount of liability coverage, minimum coverage does not protect your vehicle. The most protection is provided by full coverage, which is a combination of liability, collision, and comprehensive coverages.
This table displays average car insurance rates based on coverage from top companies, including Geico.

The only auto insurance company that is cheaper than Geico is USAA, but it only offers coverage to military members and their families. Geico has the most affordable car insurance offered to all drivers.
Although Geico full coverage auto insurance is more expensive than liability-only coverage, it also pays for damages from accidents and other incidents.
Because Geico’s rates are low and Roadside Assistance costs are slightly over $1 a month, adding coverage won’t excessively raise your rates.

How do you request service through Roadside Assistance from Geico?
If your car breaks down, you can request help 24/7 — in three different ways — with Geico Roadside Assistance.
Ways to request Geico Roadside Assistance include:
- Call the Geico Roadside Assistance number at 1-800-424-3426
- Select the help option on the website
- Use the Geico mobile app
If you request service through the mobile app, Geico can detect your specific location from the app. This improves service times and ensures that the technician is traveling to the correct location. In addition, the service tracker in the app allows you to know when a technician is on the way.
Service times are usually less than an hour, but your wait time will vary based on location. If you don’t want to wait or want to use your own service, Geico will reimburse your costs up to the amount of your coverage limit.
For example, suppose that it will take an hour for a tow truck through Geico, but another company can tow your vehicle in 30 minutes. Go ahead and use the other service, and then submit your paperwork to receive a reimbursement from Geico.

Geico’s Roadside Assistance: The Bottom Line
Geico’s Roadside Assistance is only approximately $1 a month and offers various services, including towing, battery jump-start, fuel delivery, winching, and locksmith services.
However, there are coverage limits, and you must pay for any needed goods, such as a new battery, new tires, fuel, and a new set of keys.
The good news is that Geico car insurance rates are low, and adding Roadside Assistance is very inexpensive. So if you have an unreliable vehicle, spend a lot of time on the road, or ignore your gas gauge, consider adding roadside assistance.
Remember, other car insurance companies and auto clubs also offer roadside assistance. Compare rates and coverages to find the best fit for you.
